the third column to the right there has a box that says ‘one day without shoes’. it’s a TOMS event. for those of you that don’t know what TOMS is – it’s a company, for profit, that gives one pair of shoes to a needy child for every shoe you buy. pretty slick.
so the box in that column is theirone day without shoes event – happening tomorrow. they’re telling people to go one day without shoes to stir up conversation about the needs. thus inspiring people to buy shoes which leads to giving shoes.
great concept. i fully support it.
not into shoes? that’s ok. also in that column to the right is compassion international. they give to feed, clothe, and shelter kids. the money they take in goes directly to the kids & not the administration. nice.
so whether you go shoeless tomorrow or not, don’t think it’s going to be another tuesday. because it won’t. not to the child that’s receiving his first pair of kicks at the age of 13. not to the child that doesn’t go hungry because of your $38 you gave for her food & well-being. think these kids are too far away for you to feel connected? well, google your local orphanage. visit the widows you know. go. now. go. stop reading. do something. go.
“religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.” James 1:27
